I didn’t sign up for yoga teacher training because I had some big dream of becoming a yoga teacher. I signed up because, through some of the harder parts of my own life, I found myself being called deeper into yoga.

I loved my asana practice, but somewhere in my heart I knew there was more. I wasn’t finding that “more” in the classes I was taking, and at that point in my life, I didn’t just want it - I needed it. So I went to YTT to learn.

I wanted to understand what lived underneath the poses: the philosophy, the breath, the meditation, the history, the traditions - all of it. I genuinely didn’t know if I would ever teach. And then I started learning.

The deeper we went, the more I kept having this feeling: people need to know this. Not because I had suddenly decided I wanted to stand at the front of a room and teach yoga, but because what I was learning felt too meaningful to keep to myself. Yoga was so much bigger than I had understood it to be, and I wanted other people to have the opportunity to discover that for themselves, too.

Somewhere along the way, wanting to learn became feeling called to share. That’s really where Root & Lantern began. For me, yoga isn’t about perfect poses. It’s a practice we can return to - through breath, awareness, meditation, philosophy, movement, curiosity - and one that can reach far beyond our mats and into the way we live our lives.

I’m still a student, and I know I always will be. There will always be more to learn, more to explore, and more to understand. But now I get to share what I’m learning along the way. And that feels a whole lot like what I’m supposed to be doing.
